Why Singapore Has One of the World's Most Favorable Tax Regimes

Singapore is internationally renowned for its transparent, territorial, and pro-business tax policy administered by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS).

With maximum progressive income tax rates capped at 24%, a generous S$20,000 tax-free bracket, zero tax on capital gains, and zero tax on foreign-sourced income received by individuals, Singapore consistently ranks as the top destination in Asia for global talent, entrepreneurs, and executives.

Central Provident Fund (CPF) Deductions for Citizens & PRs

The Central Provident Fund (CPF) is Singapore's mandatory social security savings scheme:

  • Employee Contribution: 20.0% of monthly wage (up to the CPF monthly ordinary wage ceiling of S$6,800 in 2024, rising to S$8,000 in 2026).
  • Employer Contribution: 17.0% of monthly wage.
  • Tax Relief Advantage: 100% of employee CPF contributions are fully tax-deductible against IRAS personal income tax!

Expat Advantage: Foreign employees on Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, or ONE Pass do not contribute to CPF. Expats receive 100% of their gross salary without social security deductions and pay only the low IRAS progressive income tax.

Non-Resident Tax Rates in Singapore

If an individual is physically present or works in Singapore for fewer than 183 days in a calendar year:

  • 60 Days or Less: Short-term employment income is 100% Tax-Exempt (does not apply to directors or entertainers).
  • 61 to 182 Days: Taxed at a flat rate of 15% (without personal tax reliefs) or the resident progressive rate, whichever produces a higher tax amount.
